Jesus Christ is Supreme
What is really, really important to you? What matters, "come hell or high water"?
What a challenge it is to navigate the demands of others in a highly competitive world! Sports and music, particularly, come to mind. You may think of other things. I remember when my children were small, the demands that were put on them (and their parents!) to make --- [fill in the blank] the most important thing in their lives.
Our top priority can be something good in itself, like academic or professional success, or family. Or sports, or music.
Living as faithful Christians in a secular society often means that we put high priority on these things. Even being present in church may, on occasion, have to take second place.
The obvious clash comes on Sunday mornings. But, more insidious than that, is the priority these things take in our thinking. What is the most important thing in your life?
This magnificent passage reminds us that Jesus Christ is supreme. He is supreme in our lives when we listen to him and obey him.
His existence didn't begin with his birth in a stable. He existed before anything was made. He was active in creation itself. He is superior to all creation and holds everything together.
He is also supreme in the church. He is head over all church leaders. With all of God's fullness dwelling in him, he is reconciling to himself the whole of creation.
That includes you.
Respond in Prayer
I worship you, Lord, for being pre-eminent in creation and in the church. Help me to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. And help me to stay deeply rooted and firm in my faith. Amen.

Аб гэтым плане

This 13-day plan from TheStory Book Study takes you through Colossians and Philemon—two short letters packed with truth and encouragement. Written by Paul from prison, Colossians addresses false teaching and reminds believers that Christ is supreme and sufficient. Philemon, a personal note to a believer in Colossae, shows how the gospel reshapes relationships, even between a slave and master. Though written centuries ago, these letters still speak clearly today. Each day includes a Bible passage and a reflection from experienced Bible teachers to help you understand, apply, and grow in faith.
