The Forging of Faith
1 Samuel 28:1-2
“…Achish said to David, ‘You must understand that you and your men will accompany me in the army.’ David said, ‘Then you will see for yourself what your servant can do.’ Achish replied, ‘Very well, I will make you my bodyguard for life.’”
Why was David prepared to fight against his Israelite brothers on the side of the Philistines?
The invitation to fight with the Philistines came from Achish, not David. This was part of his ongoing deception now that David was in Philistine territory. However, the deception was now becoming hard to conceal and the pressure David was under continued to rise. God’s transformation and character-forging process in David caused David to cry out to God for perspective, strength and deliverance. It was a school of faith from which David was determined to graduate. Deep in enemy territory and on the run from his father-in-law, David trusted that God’s plan for his life would prevail.
Will we have faith in God’s purposes, provision and plan regardless where we are in life?
Lord Jesus, you are my deliverer and my faith is in you this day.
