Daily Bible Reading— May 2025, God's Strengthening Word: Trusting in God’s Promises

31天中的第18天

Introduction

2 Samuel 5:1–25: The book of 2 Samuel begins with David learning of Saul’s death. In today’s reading, the leaders of the northern tribes (Israel) accept David as king. Earlier he had been made king of Judah, the southern tribes (see 2 Samuel 2:1–7). David now leads a united Israel in capturing Jerusalem from the Jebusites and fighting the Philistines.

Today’s Key Verse: 2 Samuel 5:3

So all the leaders of Israel came to King David at Hebron. He made a sacred alliance with them, they anointed him, and he became king of Israel.

Reflect

What do the northern tribes say to David (verses 1–2)? How does David respond? What does David do after capturing the Jebusite fortress? What does David name the city? In what ways does the King of Tyre offer assistance to David? Have you ever participated in an event that involved members from various faith communities? How would you describe that experience?

Pray

Lord God Almighty, in you we find our strength. Like a fortress of protection, you surround us in your love. Draw me close to you so that I may abide in the safety of your care. Amen.

Tomorrow’s Reading

2 Samuel 7:1–17: The prophet Nathan delivers a message to David.
