Reading With the People of God #13 Nicene Creed

31 天中的第 3 天

Focus of the Month: Nicene Creed

We believe in one God,

the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary,
and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father [and the Son],
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The True King and His Kingdom

In 2 Kings 9:1-13, Jehu is anointed as king, a moment filled with urgency and divine purpose. His reign will bring judgment and change, but his leadership is temporary and imperfect like all earthly rulers.

In Matthew 14, we see two contrasting kings—Herod and Jesus. Herod, a corrupt ruler, gives in to pride and fear, leading to John the Baptist’s execution. Jesus, the true King, responds to suffering with compassion and power—feeding the hungry, walking on water, and calling His disciples to faith.

The Nicene Creed declares that Jesus is the one who “sits at the right hand of the Father” and “His kingdom will have no end.” Unlike Jehu or Herod, Jesus’ reign is eternal, just, and life-giving. The readings remind us that while human rulers come and go, our hope is in Christ, the King who rules with power and love. Will we trust earthly power or the eternal King who calls us to follow Him in faith?

Reading With the People of God #13 Nicene Creed

This is the thirteenth installment of a Bible reading plan following the lectionary pattern, offering daily readings from the Psalms, Old Testament, and New Testament. Each day includes a devotional primer to help prepare your heart and mind for a deeper, more meaningful encounter with Scripture. Additionally, as we commemorate the 1,700-year anniversary of the Nicene Creed this year, this plan provides a daily focus to help us understand and celebrate this foundational confession of our Christian faith.
