THEN JONAH PRAYED

After 3 days in a fish, then Jonah prayed. I think that is about as low as you can get. When we talk about those who wait until they hit rock bottom to repent, my mind goes to this chapter. It's easy to try to do things our own way until everything seems hopeless. Are we waiting for things to be hopeless, or are we willing to turn to God now? Do we follow God in good and bad times or only when it's hopeless?

Here are some highlights from today’s video:

  • Then Jonah prayed.
    • Jonah wouldn’t repent until he hit rock bottom.
    • Jonah Chapter 2, Verse 7 (ESV): When my life was fainting away, I remembered the Lord.
  • If we turn to God now, we can see the change and avoid the disaster, but if we refuse, we can hit the bottom before receiving help.
  • We have the invitation to turn to God now, while there is time.
  • Joel 2:12 (NLT) That is why the LORD says, "Turn to me now, while there is time! Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning.

Lessons From Jonah

Jonah is one of my favorite Bible stories. It's a small and rich story with only four small chapters; it doesn’t take long, but it is filled with powerful lessons for us today. We are going to spend four days reading through the book of Jonah together, pulling lessons from the life and story of Jonah.
