Am I in the Right Job? …Guidance From the Bible预览

Does It Fit Who You Are?
You’ve looked at why you took your job. You’ve thought about your motivations. Now, it’s time to ask a third question:
Does your job actually fit the person God created you to be?
The Bible makes it clear: we are all uniquely gifted. In the Old Testament, we read how different people were entrusted with the work of constructing the tabernacle and the temple – builders, carpenters, laborers, scribes, and gatekeepers. Everyone had a role. No one role was more holy or important than another.
The Apostle Paul echoes the key motivation behind all that we do also:
"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." – 1 Corinthians 10:31
God doesn’t just want you to work hard – He wants you to work in a way that aligns with how He designed you, to His glory.
Let me share a personal example. As a young man, I dreamed of being a rock star. Guitar solos, bright lights, the whole thing. The only problem? I had zero musical talent. I failed music class and still can’t clap in time at church! But God gave me a knack for numbers, and that led me to engineering.
Later in my career, I found myself doing more project management. I could do it – but it drained me. Schedules and spreadsheets weren’t my strength. Delegating helped me survive that season, and I grew as a leader. But it reminded me: God wires us all differently, and we thrive when we honor that.
So what about you?
What are you good at? What energizes you? What drains you? Are you in a role that brings life – or one that takes it away?
The world tells us to chase promotions and titles. But some people simply aren’t wired to lead teams or make high-stakes decisions. And that’s okay. The best job isn’t the one with the corner office – it’s the one that fits who you are in Christ.
Remember who you are working for and whose Kingdom you are to be building:
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…” – Colossians 3:23
When your job fits your gifts, joy and energy follow. You shine not because of your title, but because of how you serve. And in doing so, you glorify God.
So, as you weigh your options – stay or go – make sure your next step aligns with who God made you to be.
That’s how you find joy, bear fruit, and build His Kingdom through your work.
