Am I in the Right Job? …Guidance From the Bible预览

Check Your Motivation
When it comes to deciding whether to stay in your job or look for a new one, your motivation matters more than you think.
Check this advice from the Apostle Paul:
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. – Philippians 2:3-4
That’s a hard teaching, especially in today’s world where ambition, position, and pay are praised.
But God calls us to examine the “why” behind our choices. Is it really about glorifying Him, or are we just building our own kingdom?
Let’s be honest: when a job comes with more money or a fancy title, even Christians are quick to say, “It must be God’s blessing.” And sometimes, it is. But other times, the enemy uses those very things – pay, promotion, power – to pull us away from God’s purpose.
Jesus said this:
Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.” – Matthew 20:25-26
God’s Kingdom turns the world’s priorities upside down. It’s not about climbing higher but kneeling lower. Not about building our careers, but building His Kingdom.
I’ve lived this tension myself. Years ago, I had a prestigious job as a VP for a major company. From the outside, it looked perfect – power, perks, and a great paycheck. But behind the scenes, it was all-consuming: endless meetings, late-night calls, and constant pressure. Slowly, I started to believe the lie that I was indispensable. That the company really “needed” me. That it really was “all about me.”
Then, one evening at a church small group, the truth hit me like a freight train: I wasn’t serving God – I was serving “me.”
My career had become my identity. I realized I had to make a change.
So, I quit.
It wasn’t easy. But it was right.
And maybe that’s the question you need to ask:
“Does my job bring glory to God – or just to me?”
Remember this verse from the Bible?
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…” – Colossians 3:23
If you’re struggling with a career decision, start by asking whether your motivation lines up with God’s purpose. Is it about your comfort and recognition, or about Christ and His Kingdom?
Remember, God’s will is not about building your resume. It’s about building your relationship with Him.
