7 Days to Phone Freedom预览

Get Bored
What did you discover about your phone habits yesterday? Did you expect those results?
The goal of this Phone Freedom Challenge isn’t just freedom from your phone. It’s freedom to live an abundant life! Freedom to live the life God desires for you!
So, now that you’re spending less time on your phone each day, you have more time for other things. But what will you do with all of that restored time? What if you get bored?
Many of us run from boredom. Rather than sit with our thoughts, we reach for our phones for entertainment or shopping. We squeeze every minute for productivity or profit. In our culture, boredom is assumed to be the antithesis of a purposeful life.
In Matthew 16:24-25, Jesus says, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”
God teaches us that breaking out of any cycle of brokenness will require sacrifice. Looking at the cross, we know that sacrifice can be uncomfortable and painful.
To bore means to make a hole in something, to pierce through.
Imagine boredom is a shovel carving deeper wells of patience, self-control, and contentment in your mind, heart, and body. Every time you feel that piercing, that boredom, celebrate! You’re going in the right direction toward greater freedom.
Let this be an invitation to discover that boredom is your friend in your walk with God.
Here’s what you can do today:
Choose Boredom. When you feel the compulsion to reach for your phone, DON’T! Recognize your desire for entertainment, distraction, or attention, and choose boredom. Sit in the discomfort. Then, breathe and pray, “The Lord is my shepherd, He’s all that I need” (adapted from Psalm 23:1).
Choose (Real) Life. There is so much life to live outside of your phone! When you choose boredom, you’re also choosing to engage with the people and things in your real life! Here are a few ways to use the time you’re off your phone:
- Write a handwritten note to someone
- Call a friend
- Organize a junk drawer
- Clean out your pantry
- Journal (we suggest our Revelation Wellness Move in Love Journal!)
- Read a book
- Meditate on Scripture (Listen to a Be Still & Be Loved podcast episode from the Revelation Wellness Podcast)
- Go for a walk outside
