Soldiers Run to Tell a Lie!

Soldiers Run to Tell a Lie!

Main Point: Soldiers who witnessed Jesus’s resurrection spread a lie.

Be on the lookout! Questions

Who asked Governor Pilate for soldiers to guard Jesus’s tomb? Why?

Who rolled away the stone from Jesus’s tomb?

What happened to the earth while the soldiers were guarding Jesus’s tomb?

Why did the soldiers spread a lie?

Kids Devo:

After Jesus died, the Chief Priests and Pharisees remembered that Jesus said He would come back to life on the third day. They didn't believe Jesus could really do that, but they still put guards at His tomb. The guards were there to make sure no one took Jesus's body and pretended that Jesus was alive again.

On the 3rd day, an earthquake shook the ground when an angel came down and moved the big stone that covered Jesus's tomb. The guards saw all of this and were so scared that they fell over and fainted! Jesus had really come back to life! He left that tomb!

The guards went to tell the Chief Priests and Pharisees what happened, and they knew that Jesus was really alive. But instead of telling everyone the truth, they spread a lie! The Chief Priests and Pharisees paid the guards to say that Jesus's followers had stolen His body.

But that wasn't true! The guards saw everything that happened, and they knew that Jesus was alive again. The Chief Priests and Pharisees just didn't want people to believe in Jesus. They wanted to keep their power and control.

So, when the women went to tell everyone the good news that Jesus was alive, the guards were telling a lie about what happened. People had to decide if they would believe the truth or the lie. Think about that!

And you remember kiddo, Grandma Goodie loves you but God loves you more!

Let’s Pray:

Dear God,

Thank you for showing and telling the truth about Jesus in the Bible.

Help us to learn to tell what is true from what is not.

Please help us to believe in You and share the true story about Jesus’s resurrection.

Amen!

Play Ideas:

Act It Out:

Pretend you are the soldiers or the Chief Priests. Plan what you would say based on what the Bible tells us. Act it out in keeping with what the Bible said happened in Matthew 28:1-15.

Play Two Truths and A Lie:

• Play with someone else, your family, or a group of friends.

• Tell 3 things about yourself or an experience you had. Tell 2 true things and one lie that is made-up. The other players have to guess one is a lie. Choose truths that others don’t know about you, but that you can prove. Then, think of something that is not true but might sound like it could be.

• Each player tells their 2 Truths and 1 Lie to the players. Each player guesses which is the lie. Keep score. Give a point for each correct guess to identify the lie. Play as long as you like.
