Seizing Opportunity When it Comes
In the film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, there’s a scene where the titular character has to step off a cliff into what seems to be nothingness. He doesn’t have to think about it because his choice has already been made. This act was required because of what he had already decided.
Esther’s similar moment is in today’s text.
Her moment captures the tension of risk and reward, fear and favor. Esther, having fasted and prayed, walks into the inner court where an uninvited entrance could cost her life. The outcome wasn’t guaranteed—yet she stepped forward. Not with demands or entitlement; she simply stood with resolve, clothed in courage and wisdom.
What does this say to us as men?
Sometimes leadership means standing still in the right place at the right time. Esther didn’t kick down the door. She didn’t storm into the king’s presence with rage or fear. She took a breath, prayed, dressed with intention, and walked with poise and purpose.
In our culture, courage is often portrayed with loud voices and aggressive moves. But biblical courage is often different. Its strength is anchored in God, not self. It’s boldness that begins in prayer and ends in obedience. Esther had no promise that the king would extend the scepter of mercy—but she knew her calling. And she chose to act.
For men today, such strength is needed. Whether you’re leading a family, navigating workplace pressures, or facing challenges in your personal life, the call is to show up—faithfully, prayerfully, and with purpose.
Esther’s example also reminds us that God often prepares the hearts of others when we obey. The king didn’t just tolerate her presence; he was pleased to see her. That outcome was entirely in God’s hands. Esther simply had to show up.
There are times when a man needs to confront a situation, ask for help, or say the hard thing. You may not know how it will be received. You might feel exposed or uncertain. But like Esther, your faithfulness might be the very thing God uses to open doors, soften hearts, or turn history.
Esther didn’t just step into a throne room—she stepped into her God-given purpose. And God met her there.
Prayer: Lord, help me stand with courage when You call me to act. Teach me to prepare through prayer, walk in faith, and trust You with the results. Help me lead with quiet strength and unwavering obedience. Amen.
Reflection: Where is God asking you to step forward in courage, even when the outcome is uncertain?
