Be GladÀpẹrẹ

Whatever is Honest...
There’s something so powerful about focusing on what is true and good, especially when life feels overwhelming. It’s easy to get caught up in the noise of the world, to focus on what’s wrong, what’s broken, and what’s difficult. The “facts” may tell us we’re not enough, that we’re not measuring up, or that we’re defined by our flaws and imperfections. But the Bible invites us to shift our focus—to meditate on what is true, lovely, and excellent, rather than just what we see.
In my own life, I’ve had to intentionally choose to focus on these truths, especially in moments when I’ve been reminded of my physical flaws. When I look at myself in the mirror, it’s easy to see the imperfections. It is easy to focus on the things I wish I could change, my weight, my hair, my skin…and the heaviness of those external struggles. But when I began to focus on the truth of God’s promises—that I am loved, chosen, and enough—everything began to change. My flaws don’t define me; His love does.
Choosing joy often starts with what we choose to focus on. When we align our thoughts with God’s truth, that we are loved, accepted, and chosen, joy becomes more accessible—even in the darkest times. The physical facts may change, but the eternal truth of who we are in Christ never does.
Reflection Points:
- What is something true, lovely, or praiseworthy that you can focus on today?
- How can you intentionally choose to think about what is excellent, rather than focusing on the negative or your physical imperfections?
