Day 4: Your Story Is Not Done Yet

"I will get up and go to my father" (Luke 15:18, MSG).

You’re at the movies, ticket stub in hand, waiting in line for popcorn drenched in that good old buttery goodness. You rush to your seat because you don’t want to miss the previews (sometimes, they’re better than the actual movie). But you know the movie is over when the credits roll—the scene fades, the music swells, and the words start appearing on the screen.

I imagine the listeners of Jesus’ parable of The Prodigal Son thought the credits had rolled when the young man found himself broke, alone, and working in a pigpen. Surely, that was the end of his story—he got what he deserved. But the story didn’t end there. Instead of dying in his misery, he made a decision: I will get up and go to my father. And that decision changed everything.

Too often, we assume our failures are the end of our story. We think our mistakes define us, that we’ve messed up too much to make a comeback. But just like the prodigal son, your story is not done yet. The credits haven’t rolled. Your past does not have to dictate your future because God’s Grace is greater than your failures.

You may be facing heartbreak, addiction, financial struggles, or a past that haunts you, but God is not finished with you yet. He specializes in redeeming the broken, in rewriting stories that seem beyond repair. No matter where you find yourself today, you still have a Father waiting with open arms, ready to restore you. Your story isn’t over—it’s just getting started.

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, thank You that my story doesn’t end with my mistakes but with Your Grace. Help me remember that You are always working, even when I can’t see it. I choose to trust You with my story. Amen.
