DAY 3 OF 5

Worry Makes You Weary - Devotional Day 3

Worry decreases your faith in God; it’s you indirectly saying, “God, I don’t trust you that much about this situation, so I’m going to stress and overthink about this problem until I find a solution that will STILL keep me in worry.” Imagine that! Worrying does nothing but make you weary, frustrated, and sometimes even leaves you feeling hopeless. Mathew 6:27: “Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” Ask yourself that question…can it? Worry really takes from you. It steals those happy, peaceful moments of being in awe of God as your Jehovah-Jireh (The Lord your provider). It steals from the glory of God in your life of Him being your Jehovah-Shalom (The Lord your peace). It sneaks up on a mission to cause you to feel helpless, yet God stands right in front of you, ready to be your El-Elyon (God your defender). Worry is deceptive; its mission is to snatch the truth of resting in God’s provision and protection from you, so that you will be wallowing in frustration and defeat.

There are moments in our lives where we worry even without realizing it, but that is not an excuse to pull out a chair and dine with your rival.

Jesus faced a sorrowful moment in the garden of Gethsemane, where He was about to be taken to be persecuted for the sins of the world. Jesus uttered to the father, “O my father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt (Matthew 26:39 KJV). Jesus could have allowed worry to consume Him regarding what was about to happen next, but instead He chose to get strength from God the father, as well as allowing God’s will to be done.

What are you worrying about? Your future, your past, your present? Surely, you know that God holds all of that in the palms of His hands! Whatever area of your life is causing worry or some uneasiness in your heart, lay it at the feet of the Lord Jesus, be honest with Him about how you feel, but at the end of it...Let His will be done. His ways are not your ways, and His thoughts are higher than your thoughts. (See Isaiah 55:8-9)

Worry only has a place in your life if you are not firmly anchored in truth. Knowing what God has said about you and to you through His word is what will dismiss the thoughts of worry and establish peace in your heart and mind. Believe that this year, this season, this month, and even this day will go according to God’s perfect plan for you, and every storm you may face is to propel you onto the Plainfield of glory where God wants you to be.

Remember Joseph's story? It’s found in Genesis 37:5 – Genesis 41:57. Through Joseph's dreams, God was revealing how he was going to be used mightily by Him, but before Joseph could get to the palace he had to go through the pit; in the end God’s perfect will was done and as Joseph said in Genesis 45:5: “Now therefore, be not grieved nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.” Joseph never let worry or fear get the best of him, but he knew God’s divine presence was with him when he was at his lowest, just as much as when he was elevated to the place of honour God had prepared for him.

Shake that worry of tomorrow off of you and instead gird yourself with confidence in God’s truth. Trusting God is your response to knowing that He is in control of your life. Make it a point this year to focus on what God is doing in your life and what He is teaching you, rather than putting all your attention on what you are going through or having a “why me” mentality.

He has a plan and purpose for you, but worry needs to take a permanent vacation out of your life, and you need to begin building with the blocks of faith and the foundation of His word that will always stand firm in your life.

Prayer

Lord, forgive me for leaning on my own understanding and five senses instead of trusting in your precious Holy Spirit to show me how to have faith. I declare that worry no longer has a place in my life in Jesus' Mighty name. Teach me to rest in the palm of your hands, positioned in your throne room of grace. Open my eyes to see your fingerprints in every area of my life, and may you grant me the serenity to know that you will sustain me always as you do every day. Lord, let your will be done in my life.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
