What does being “born again” mean to us?
Being “born again” is a spiritual rebirth, not an actual physical rebirth as Nicodemus assumed. Because of our sin, we were spiritually dead before salvation, and we needed spiritual life. To be born again is to be made spiritually alive. This is not something we can achieve simply by being a good person.
A man can do a lot of things, but he can never rebirth himself. It is a sovereign act of God through the Holy Spirit, cleansing the believer from sin and granting him a new life in Christ. This spiritual rebirth allows us to live forever with God in heaven, through Jesus' sacrifice on our behalf.
