Following Jesus Through the First Christmas: 25 Days of Advent Truths

DAY 7 OF 25

Joseph’s world changed in a moment. The woman he loved and planned to marry was pregnant, and the child wasn’t his.

It’s hard to imagine what that news felt like—confusion, grief, maybe even a sense of betrayal.

Still, Joseph didn’t react out of anger or pride. Right in the midst of heartbreak and confusion, Joseph stayed open to hear from God.

When the angel came to him in a dream and told him not to be afraid, Joseph listened. He took Mary as his wife and named the baby Jesus, just as God said.

He chose obedience when no one around him would’ve understood.

Joseph shows us what faithfulness looks like when it's costly.

Sometimes obedience is quiet. It doesn’t draw attention or earn applause. It’s simply the choice to do what honors God even when it costs us something.

God still works through those who stay faithful when no one is watching.

The path of obedience is not always easy, but it’s always worth it.

Pray:

God, You see every place where obedience costs more than words can say. Give me the courage to follow You even when it’s quiet, even when it hurts, even when I don’t understand the outcome. Teach me to trust that You’re at work in the unseen places and that my faithfulness matters to You. Strengthen my heart to keep saying yes to You. Amen.

Talk about it:

Is there an area where obedience feels hard or hidden right now? What’s one small step of faith you can take today to trust God with it?

About this Plan

Following Jesus Through the First Christmas: 25 Days of Advent Truths

During a season that often feels busy and stretched thin, we invite you to pause and remember what matters most: following Jesus. The birth of Christ is more than a story we tell in December. It's the beginning of our Savior's life on earth — and the pattern for our own life with Him. Our prayer is that these 25 days prepare your heart to celebrate His birth, deepen your walk with Him today, and stir your hope for His return. We’ve also created a companion worship playlist – search “Following Jesus Through the First Christmas” on Spotify to listen.
