Following Jesus Through the First Christmas: 25 Days of Advent Truths

DAY 12 OF 25

When God changes our plans, He’s doing something good.

The shepherds were working the night shift when heaven broke in. An angel’s announcement sent them on a mission — not to finish what they were doing, but to see what God had done.

They dropped everything and hurried to Bethlehem to find Jesus. Their interruption became an invitation to joy.

Watch how they responded:

First, they went. Their obedience meant moving toward what God was doing.

Second: they saw. Because of their obedience, they got to see God’s work firsthand.

Third: they told others. The joy they discovered was always meant to be shared with others.

God’s interruptions don’t always look like angels. Sometimes it’s a phone call, a canceled meeting, or an unexpected visitor.

We can let these moments be inconveniences, or they can be invitations. What if you began seeing interrupted plans as a chance to notice where God might be at work?

Saying “yes” to God’s interruptions means staying available and expectant. It means choosing trust over control.

When we do, we usually find that God is doing something better than we imagined.

Pray:

God, help me notice when You interrupt my plans. Give me the willingness to go, the eyes to see, and the courage to share the joy that I find. Turn my interruptions into opportunities to worship and to bless others. Amen.

Talk About It:

When has an unexpected interruption led you to something joyful or important? What’s one small way you can say “yes” to a God-sized interruption this week?

About this Plan

Following Jesus Through the First Christmas: 25 Days of Advent Truths

During a season that often feels busy and stretched thin, we invite you to pause and remember what matters most: following Jesus. The birth of Christ is more than a story we tell in December. It's the beginning of our Savior's life on earth — and the pattern for our own life with Him. Our prayer is that these 25 days prepare your heart to celebrate His birth, deepen your walk with Him today, and stir your hope for His return. We’ve also created a companion worship playlist – search “Following Jesus Through the First Christmas” on Spotify to listen.
