Following Jesus Through the First Christmas: 25 Days of Advent Truths

DAY 10 OF 25

When Mary gave birth to Jesus, she laid Him in a manger because there was no room anywhere else. The town was crowded. Every guest space was full. Everyone was busy.

It’s easy for the same thing to happen in our lives.

We fill every hour, every space…

…and then wonder where God is.

The truth is, He’s still near—we can simply live our lives in a way that makes it hard to notice Him.

Making room for Jesus isn’t about adding more to your schedule. It’s about creating space for Him right where you are.

When we slow down and open our hearts, we begin to see that His presence has been there all along—just as God promised Moses, “The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you” (Deuteronomy 31:8).

Jesus echoed that same promise before He ascended: “I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).

So what does this look like practically?

Making room looks like reading Scripture daily to hear from God.

Praying instead of worrying.

Honoring worship and being with your church family before making weekend plans.

Obeying His commandments when it makes no logical sense.

Leaving margin in your schedule for people.

These small choices make room for Jesus to move in big ways.

When you make space for Him, He fills it—with peace, clarity, and joy the world can’t offer.

Pray:

Jesus, show me where I’ve crowded You out. Help me clear space for You—in my time, my priorities, and my thoughts. Teach me to make room for what matters most: You. Amen.

Talk about it:

What part of your life feels too full right now? What’s one practical way you could make room for Jesus in it this week?

About this Plan

Following Jesus Through the First Christmas: 25 Days of Advent Truths

During a season that often feels busy and stretched thin, we invite you to pause and remember what matters most: following Jesus. The birth of Christ is more than a story we tell in December. It's the beginning of our Savior's life on earth — and the pattern for our own life with Him. Our prayer is that these 25 days prepare your heart to celebrate His birth, deepen your walk with Him today, and stir your hope for His return. We’ve also created a companion worship playlist – search “Following Jesus Through the First Christmas” on Spotify to listen.
