On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand.

As we come to a close, we read these reminders at the end of 1 Peter - the culmination of advice on how to face the days ahead. Peter gives the church such timeless advice:humble yourselves, cast your anxiety on him, be alert and sober of mind, resist the devil. The motivation for all this is that we are on our way to restoration and this is all leading somewhere. God will restore you, make you strong, firm and steadfast (v10). There is encouragement to stay the course and keep going, regardless of the suffering or difficulties that lie in our way. These obstacles do not have the final word, for God Himself has called us to His eternal glory.

In the meantime: on Christ the solid rock we stand, all other ground is sinking sand.

Consider

Read verses 10 and 11 as a benediction. Consider how there might be instances where you will need ‘God Himself’ (v10) to become apparent.

Prayer

• Peter gives the church this advice: humble yourselves, cast your anxiety on him, be alert and sober of mind, resist the devil. Pray for each other, using this advice as your guide.
• Children and young people around the world are struggling with anxiety. Pray for wisdom to proclaim a message of ‘living hope’ to them.
