On Christ the Solid Rock We StandНамуна

Our Living Hope in Salvation
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus' name
On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand.
1 Peter opens with praise, what a great place to start! Praise God for our new birth into a living hope (v3). Peter lays the foundation for his letter by focussing his readers on the source of this living hope – the resurrection of Jesus. Hope is not dead and buried in a grave, but alive in Jesus. On this foundation, they are to build their lives. Because of this living hope, they can endure the sufferings that they are experiencing. They are to lift their eyes to see the end result: the salvation of their souls (v9). There is eternal security to be found even during difficult times. Rejoice!
Consider
What is it about this Living Hope that encourages us to live well today?
Prayer
- We praise God together for the gift of salvation and our eternal security.
- Pray for those who are feeling insecure and uncertain. This might be a child, a young person or a family. Pray for opportunities to share with them our living hope in Jesus.

About this Plan

This plan from Scripture Union International draws from 1 Peter, a letter written to encourage believers facing persecution. Peter reminds us that, through Jesus’ resurrection, we have a living hope—not only for the future but alive and active in our present joys and struggles. Amid global challenges and personal struggles, we stand firm together in prayer and thanksgiving. On Christ the solid Rock we stand!
