On Christ the Solid Rock We Stand

DAY 3 OF 5

Our Living Hope in Victory

His oath, his covenant, his blood
Supports me in the 'whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay

On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand.

In a world that often glorifies revenge and defensive words, 1 Peter 3 calls believers to a different way: one of gentleness and respect. Peter encourages his listeners to learn when to keep quiet and when to speak, and to always have an answer ready to the big question – the reason why they have a living hope! Like the chapters before, and the ones to follow, Peter again points to Jesus’ resurrection. Whilst it can look like evil and suffering is winning, this is not the end. Our salvation is found in Jesus’ resurrection, who through his submission to the suffering of the cross, is now at the right hand of God, with all the angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.

Consider

What does it look like for a for a follower of Jesus to bevictorious?

Prayer

  • A life of following Jesus doesn’t always feel victorious. Pray together for situations in your local community where you want to see victory.
  • Pray for global ministries—to share hope in word and action, serve amid injustice, and lead courageously so children, youth, and families experience true victory.

About this Plan

On Christ the Solid Rock We Stand

This plan from Scripture Union International draws from 1 Peter, a letter written to encourage believers facing persecution. Peter reminds us that, through Jesus’ resurrection, we have a living hope—not only for the future but alive and active in our present joys and struggles. Amid global challenges and personal struggles, we stand firm together in prayer and thanksgiving. On Christ the solid Rock we stand!
