Earth Is Heaven's Bootcamp

DAY 13 OF 30

Keep Our Eyes On The Prize

As a little kid, was there something you wanted and thought you just had to have? You begged your parents, thinking somehow that would help your cause. It was Easter time, and I spied a purple stuffed bunny sitting high on a shelf in a Kresge five-and-dime store. I must have been about five or six years old at the time. I asked Daddy if I could have it.

My daddy told me no, that we needed money for food and bills. Every time we went into that store, my eyes were on that bunny. Easter morning, that purple bunny was gifted to me by my parents. It is a fond memory I have cherished all of my life.

Perhaps it isn’t the best analogy of keeping our eyes on the prize, but scripture tells us to stay focused. Even in the most difficult of times, we need to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.

God knows our hearts, just as my earthly father knew mine. It was hard times back then, and people didn’t have a lot of extra money for frivolous things, but my daddy made sure I got the prize.

The less baggage of sin we have in our lives, the easier it is to complete boot camp. The closer we get to Him, the easier it is to stay focused.

“I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” Philippians 3:14 NLT
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.” Hebrews 12:1-2 NLT

Prayer: Lord, please help us to keep our eyes on the goal, never giving up when weary, but determined to finish well. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

About this Plan

Earth Is Heaven's Bootcamp

Compared to eternity, life on earth is but a short time. The world is home to an estimated 722,000 centenarians (age 100), according to the United Nations’ population projections for 2024. That is, .02 to .03% of the world’s population. Whether we die young or live to be old, what we do in between will matter. Living here is boot camp training to qualify for heaven!
