Be Still, And Know!

We live in an anxious world, and I will admit I have my fair share of anxiety (caused by a central nervous system disorder). In life’s boot camp, we will face many broad circumstances that may not be pleasant. No one likes to go through these times.

I love the following scripture, as it is a favorite to think about during the not-so-great times.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10 NKJV

In life’s boot camp, it is crucial to understand the meaning of the first part of the verse.

To be still before Him means we are slowing our pace enough to recognize that He is God; we are slowing down to feel His presence, and to seek refuge and help from Him. It is like saying without words, “I trust You, Lord!” When we do this, we will begin to feel peace, as we surrender to His will. It's like saying, “God, I can’t do this, please take the wheel.”

Isaiah 40:31 tells us that when we wait on God, He will "renew" our strength! Wow, what an exchange; we give Him time, He gives us strength. We know that to get through the not-so-great times of life, strength is essential.

For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: “In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” But you would not. Isaiah 30:15 NKJV

In Matthew 11:28, Jesus invites those who are weary and burdened to come to Him, and what will happen? He will give us rest!

When Mary sat at Jesus’ feet, she was still in His presence. She was learning; she was calm and at peace, while her sister Martha busied herself preparing a meal, complaining, frustrated, and bitter that her sister wasn’t helping. Martha was bringing unnecessary anxiety upon herself, just as we often do.

We believe our schedules are so full that we don’t make time to sit at the feet of Jesus. If we are going to ace Earth's boot camp, we need to get to know the very One who will stamp our destination one day!

Prayer: Lord, may we be reminded that all we have is because of You. We may think we've earned it through our work, but it's you who gave us the limbs and brain to accomplish what we do. It is You who gives man ingenuity. Let us not forget to take time to be still before You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
