Praying With Assurance: Keys to Profit and Progress

DAY 3 OF 30

CONFIDENCE IS THE TARGET OF SATAN’S ATTACKS

One of the strategies of the devil is to weaken your confidence in God so that your prayer becomes empty. If he cannot stop you from praying, he will try to ensure your prayer carries no assurance. That is why Peter warns: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: whom resist stedfast in the faith…” (1 Pet. 5:8–9). The devil’s roar is meant to terrify, to intimidate, to convince you that your prayer will not work. Once your confidence is shaken, your declarations lose force and your petitions hang in the air. Satan is not after your prayer posture or volume—he is after your confidence.

This is why you must understand that confidence is not a luxury in prayer; it is a necessity. Hebrews says, “For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end” (Heb. 3:14). The emphasis is on holding it steadfastly. The devil will use delay to tempt you to drop your confidence. He will use past failures to convince you that this prayer, too, will fail. He will whisper your unworthiness to weaken your assurance. But I want you to know: when your confidence is intact, your answers are intact. It is not how loud you cry, but how strong your confidence is in God’s Word that determines the outcome.

Refuse to surrender your confidence to Satan’s lies. The next time delay stares you in the face, declare boldly that God’s Word cannot fail. When accusations of the past rise against you, point to the blood of Jesus and stand firm. Guard your confidence like a soldier guards his weapon, for once it is lost, prayer becomes an empty ritual. Make up your mind that your confidence will not be shaken before, during, or after prayer. Remember: the roar of the devil is not the voice of God. Silence the roar, hold fast your confidence, and heaven will deliver your answers.

THOUGHT TO PONDER:
How has Satan been trying to shake my confidence in prayer? Am I ready to resist his lies and hold fast my assurance until my answers come?

PRAYER:
Lord, strengthen me to resist the enemy’s lies. Help me to guard my confidence and remain steadfast until every promise is fulfilled, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
