Start Dreaming Again: From Valley to Vision

DAY 16 OF 30

What Are You Waiting For?

“If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done.” Ecclesiastes 11:4 NLT

Your vision is renewed. You’re beginning to dream again—and yet, if someone were to chart your progress, you’ve hardly moved an inch. Why?

What’s holding you back? Doubt? Laziness? Fear? It may be a mixture of all three. You’ve got a plan, mapped out your goals, maybe even thought through the steps it will take to get there. And yet… you haven’t moved. Haven’t even started.

You may be able to justify your holding pattern by recounting your busy schedule or the lousy cold that set you back. Or perhaps doubt has crept in. If you wait until conditions are perfect, you will never move forward. Or as another version of scripture reads, “He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap.” (Ecclesiastes 11:4 NKJV).

It’s like a farmer standing at the edge of his field with good seed in his hand, but the wind is blowing in and it may storm… so he doesn’t sow. Doesn’t take the action to plant the seeds that will guarantee his future.

Or, maybe he does get the seed in the ground and now it’s harvest time, but he’s concerned about the clouds overhead. He misses his opportunity to reap because he was waiting for the perfect sunshiny day. And the crops sit in the field unharvested, the proverbial fruit rotting on the vine through the rain and snow of winter.

He wonders why life always seems so hard, why he lives on the edge of poverty, why his neighbor can afford a shiny new tractor while he limps along with the rusty one that’s always in need of repair. He kicks the dog, yells at his wife or kids, maybe even shakes his fist at God for his lot in life.

If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done.

If you’re held back by fear or overwhelmed by the task ahead, take one step at a time. Consider doable, actionable steps and then start walking. Don’t wait. Start now. Do something that counts toward the dream today.

Pray:“God, forgive me for letting circumstances become an excuse for inactivity. Help me trust you and take action towards the good things you have for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Seek: What dream has God put in your heart? If you’ve let excuses or fear hold you back, determine one thing you can do today to move towards that dream.

Speak: I am not swayed by circumstances. I trust God and his timing for what he has called me to do.
