Start Dreaming Again: From Valley to VisionНамуна

Slow But Steady
“Don’t be impatient for the Lord to act! Travel steadily along his path.” Psalm 37:34 NLT
God has birthed an idea in you. Whether it was a word, a dream, or an idea that came to you as you were driving down the highway or watching your kids play soccer, you finally have a vision for your future. You’re high on the epiphany and super excited.
Now what? You’re ready to get moving out of the now and into the new and you’re wondering—how can we speed this thing along?
Abraham had a promise from God. A promised son—a child from his loins who would carry on the family name. The Bible says Abraham believed God and the Lord declared him righteous because of his faith. Can you imagine him sharing the news with Sarah? Filled with adrenaline, he was already planning this child’s future.
Abraham was 75 years old when he received his promise from God. Nine years later, impatience got the better of them. Looking at the facts of the situation, Sarah suggested her servant Hagar to him and Abraham quickly agreed.
Hagar gave birth and Abraham became the father of Ishmael. Although God blessed him, Ishmael was not Abraham’s promised future. It wasn’t until Abraham was 100 years old that Sarah gave birth to Isaac. That’s 25 years from the spoken promise to the actual fulfillment.
I love the simplicity of the Bible in Genesis 21:1, “Then the Lord did exactly what he had promised. Sarah became pregnant, and she gave a son to Abraham in his old age.”
The Bible says God’s promises are “yes and amen.” What God says, he will fulfill. Your part is to trust and believe. Unfortunately, it’s easy to fall prey to doubt or impatience when things move more slowly than you hoped.
When you’re tempted to “push things along,” stop and consider the faithfulness of God. Slow but steady, keep trusting and stay the course of the good things God has for you.
Pray:“Dear God, help me trust your promises to me. I believe that you are faithful. Help me stay the course and not push your timeline. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Seek: What do you believe is in your future? Are you walking in faith towards it, or have you grown impatient? Commit your dream anew to God today.
Speak: My future is secure in God. My faith is grounded in his faithfulness to me.
