Help First

Mia finished dinner and ran outside to play. She wanted to roller-skate with her friends before dark. However, when she came inside to find her helmet, she saw her mom clearing the dishes from the table.

I should help my mom before I go out to play, Mia thought. But what if it gets dark and I won’t be able to roller-skate?

Just then, a Bible verse from Children’s Church came to her mind. It was Philippians 2:4, which says, “Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too” (nlt).With that in mind, Mia decided to help her mom first. And before long, all the dishes were done!

“Thank you for being such a good helper!” her mom said, giving her a big hug.

Mia smiled and ran out to play. It felt great to be a helper first and to follow the words of Philippians 2:4. So, before you play and have fun, look around and see what needs to be done!

Here is a prayer to take with you: “Lord, please remind me to help others first. I want to be a good helper and take an interest in others. Amen.”
