TRUST GOD’S REFINING PROCESS TO REVEAL HIS IMAGE IN YOU
Psalm 66:10-12 (ESV): "For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried. You brought us into the net; you laid a crushing burden on our backs; you let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water; yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance."
Mindful Minute: God’s Word is full of verses related to how God refines us.
This verse describes the concept of being tried as silver is tried. There are many stories about how the silversmith refines his silver. The key concept of the story is how the silversmith must hold the silver over the heat so the impurities are separated from it. He must watch over this process every moment to know exactly when to pull it out of the fire. If he keeps it in the fire too long, it will be destroyed. Not only this, but the silversmith knows the refining process is complete when he can see his reflection in the silver, just as God knows His refining work in us begins to reflect His image.
These metaphors are perfect for our journey. This initial period of relinquishing our life-interfering habit may feel as if we are being given a crushing burden; however, we must know and trust that we are being refined through this process just long enough to remove the impurities from our minds. God is with us every step of the way and will guide us out to a place of freedom and abundance.
Prayer: It is comforting to know that as I go through these trying times in my first weeks, I know you are with me every step of the way, almighty God. I can move forward with absolute certainty that you are refining me, and this impurity in my mind will be released. I am confident I will feel the freedom and abundance you have planned for me, Father, during this refining process. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.
