LIVE FREE FROM FEAR AND SHAME THROUGH GOD’S FORGIVENESS
Isaiah 54:4 (NLT): "Fear not; you will no longer live in shame. Don’t be afraid; there is no more disgrace for you. You will no longer remember the shame of your youth and the sorrows of widowhood."
Mindful Minute: The phrase “Fear not” is one of the most used expressions in the Bible, showing up hundreds of times, yet most of us allow fear to consume our thoughts. Shame produced by our toxic behaviors and sins of the past is real. Instead of understanding that we may have done something wrong, we believe there is something wrong with us. As a result, we hide in the darkness, fearing others might find out.
“Fear not” is a command and not a request. We can choose to ignore it and allow fear to grip our daily lives, or we can abide by it and trust in His promises. We have been forgiven, and we must obediently forgive ourselves. Let us take this thought of unforgiveness captive and simply agree with God. When we can do so, we become unencumbered by our past and are free to look at the world with wonderment and opportunity for the future.
Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for suffering on the cross for me. I pray today to live in obedience to your Word and not allow the fear of the future or the shame of the past to dictate how I live my life. I trust you, Father. I agree with you. Despite feeling uncomfortable, I will stretch into this role and practice this new discipline. I know that living in the past prohibits me from seeing my potential in the future. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
