God Is With Us

DAY 5 OF 10

Jesus is “God with us”

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). (Matthew 1:23 ESV)

One of Jesus’ titles, that was mentioned by an angel before His birth, is “Immanuel”. When Jesus came into this world, He was literally “God with us” in human form. He dwelt among us. If you have been familiar with the Christian faith and the stories about Jesus for a long time, you may have gotten so used to the idea. But think about it for a minute.

Jesus is God the Son. He is unlimited and eternal. He dwelt in glory in the highest heavens. On Earth, He looked like an ordinary man. But as soon as the veil of His humanity was lifted for a moment, “He was transfigured before them, and His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became white as light.” (Matthew 17:2 ESV) After Jesus returned to heaven, He appeared in a vision to the apostle John as “one like a son of man,” but at the same time clearly divine: “His eyes were like a flame of fire, His feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and His voice was like the roar of many waters … and His face was like the sun shining in full strength.” (Revelation 1:14-16 ESV)

This glorious, almighty Son of God became human to “be with us.” What a miracle! All praise to Him!

“God is with us.” That’s the good news the Bible tells us. Right from creation, God wanted to be with us humans. And despite all that has gone wrong since, He still wants to be with us! He even wants to dwell in our hearts. Find out more in this reading plan.
