Solo Parenting as a Widow

DAY 2 OF 5

In the book of Isaiah, God speaks tenderly to His people, promising His care and guidance: "For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, 'Do not fear; I will help you.”

Isaiah 41:13 (NIV)

Taking someone’s hand is usually done as a gesture of love, compassion, comfort, help, or guidance. In the role of a solo parent, it's easy to become overwhelmed and fearful of the challenges ahead. However, God assures you that He is with you, taking hold of your hand and offering His help.

As a solo parent, you will often find yourself facing challenges that you never dreamed of. You may also face the trauma of your children, their grief and their struggles. It seems like the weight can be so hefty and overwhelming. You are not meant to do this alone, so that is why our God promises to hold onto our hand when the weight is too heavy.

You don't have to carry the weight of parenting alone. God's strength is made perfect in your weakness. He is in this with you. You can lean on Him for support, knowing that He is a faithful Father who cares deeply for you and your children.

CHALLENGE:

This week, when you feel overwhelmed as a parent, imagine God taking you by the hand. Feel His comfort and support. He is with you! If you have children, help them imagine the same scenario. He is a good Father and He is with them. They are not alone. We also challenge you to seek resources that will help your children in their walk with God. YouVersion has a great resource in the Bible App for kids.

JOURNAL:

Write down recent moments when you felt God’s strength and/or support. Be reminded that in the same way He has been there for you, He will be there for your children. Write out a prayer for your children.

Navigating solo parenting can be among the toughest aspects of the journey through widowhood. What we once anticipated sharing with our partner, we now face on our own. All the joys, victories, and challenges of being a parent are ours to confront alone.
