Who Is Jesus? 7 Days in the 'I Am' StatementsНамуна

Read John 10:11: Jesus said: ‘I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.’
We’ve already seen how sheep and shepherds are very common Bible pictures for God’s people and their leaders. But this is more than Jesus saying that He’s a good leader. He’s the good shepherd; the one leader we need. What a massive thing to say!
How does Jesus explain that? He says that He will lay down, or give, His life for His sheep. He is willing to die for His people. Why does He need to do that? Well, God is perfect, and so He must be hostile to all that is evil and dark, including what is evil and dark in us. To come into His light, that darkness must be dealt with; a price must be paid. Jesus says that He will pay it. He will lay down His life.
It’s a free gift from the Good Shepherd to anyone who will accept it...but it comes at an enormous cost.

About this Plan

If you had to finish the sentence ‘I am...’ I wonder what you’d say? The answer would say something important about you. But have you ever wondered how Jesus would finish that sentence? In John's Gospel, one of the Bible accounts of Jesus' life, we get the answer. In fact, we get seven answers. Over seven days, this plan looks at each one in turn and simply asks what Jesus said and what it means. The answers are life-changing.
