Who Is Jesus? 7 Days in the 'I Am' StatementsНамуна

Read John 8:12: When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.’
It's an incredible thing to say! This part of John’s account has lots of discussion about what God’s work in this world is. And Jesus says that as we look at Him, the Son, God Himself, we see what God is doing. What is that? Well, a key part is bringing light – revelation – into a dark world. And this light brings life.
In John, life means eternal life, life that starts now and lasts forever. Jesus says that He can give this to us. Whoever follows Him need never walk in darkness. But light isn’t always comfortable. Jesus’ light shows us that by nature, we’re in darkness, separated from God by our own sin. We need Jesus to have light and life. And He challenges us to take what He says seriously.

About this Plan

If you had to finish the sentence ‘I am...’ I wonder what you’d say? The answer would say something important about you. But have you ever wondered how Jesus would finish that sentence? In John's Gospel, one of the Bible accounts of Jesus' life, we get the answer. In fact, we get seven answers. Over seven days, this plan looks at each one in turn and simply asks what Jesus said and what it means. The answers are life-changing.
