Healed to see.

In John 9, Jesus heals a man who had been blind from birth. The disciples immediately ask, “Who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” (John 9:2). But Jesus challenges their assumptions, saying the man’s condition was not a result of sin, but an opportunity for God’s glory to be revealed.

Jesus then heals the man, and what follows is a confrontation with religious leaders who struggle to accept the miracle. They question the man, his parents, and even Jesus’ authority. But the man who was healed doesn’t back down. He boldly testifies, “One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see” (John 9:25). His physical healing became a doorway to spiritual sight.

This passage reminds us that not all suffering is punishment. Sometimes, our trials position us to experience God’s power in a profound way. And like the man born blind, we may begin life in darkness—unable to see who Jesus truly is—but when He touches our lives, everything changes.

Spiritual blindness is harder to recognize than physical blindness. It shows up in pride, stubbornness, unforgiveness, or even religious routine. The Pharisees in this story could see with their eyes, but they were blind to the truth standing right in front of them—Jesus, the Light of the World.

I’ve had moments when I thought I was seeing clearly, only to realize I was spiritually blind to something in my life—an area of sin, a lie I was believing, or a lack of compassion. But when I asked God to open my eyes, He gently showed me the truth. It was painful at times, but also freeing.

Jesus still opens blind eyes today—both physically and spiritually. The question is: are we willing to admit where we need healing?

Take a quiet moment today and ask God, “Where am I spiritually blind?” Write down anything He brings to mind—attitudes, habits, or areas where you’ve resisted His truth. Then, ask Jesus to open your eyes and help you walk in His light. Keep the list somewhere visible this week and pray over it daily, trusting God to continue His healing work in you.
