Miracles and Mysteries: Matthew 8-13Намуна

I remember my mum telling me her story about her journey to Australia as a migrant. On her journey, she had to travel by boat (mind you, a small and rickety one) for days with over a dozen others who were fearing for their lives whenever a storm was on the horizon.
In perhaps one of the most fearful moments of the disciples’ lives up to that point, we see a very human response from Jesus’ closest followers as they are met by a raging storm whilst on a boat out at sea. As the boat was being swamped by great waves, the disciples saw that their teacher — who, not long before this, had shown great authority and power by healing many — fast asleep amidst such turbulent circumstances. And, while their response was only natural and human, they are described as having ‘little faith’ in Jesus. If we were in the same position, we probably wouldn’t blame the disciples for reacting that way. Yet, Jesus challenges the faith they displayed. After all, the Son of God lay right there next to them as the storm surrounded them!
Today, ponder this: What is your default response when faced with a ‘storm’ in your own life? Even Jesus’ closest followers had moments of fear. Have ‘big’ faith that Jesus is in control and is always present with you.
