Miracles and Mysteries: Matthew 8-13Намуна

When was the last time you were made to wait?
As a ruler seeks out Jesus to raise his daughter from the dead, we see a miracle within a miracle. While Jesus would go on to restore the ruler’s daughter, wedged in between that narrative is the story of a bleeding woman who also receives wonderful healing from Jesus.
But, notice how the ruler, after asking Jesus to go to his house to bring his daughter to life, would have to anxiously wait as Jesus was surrounded by the crowds and even stopped to heal another woman! It would be fair to imagine that the ruler would have hoped that Jesus would hastily go to his place. Every second would count in his mind! But in waiting, Jesus was requiring the ruler to be patient and trust in Him. Jesus didn’t even say that He would indeed heal the daughter when first asked— He simply rose and followed the ruler.
The ruler would have his request answered in the end, but it surely would have been a tough few hours of uncertainty and waiting. Jesus reminds us that we can always trust in His timing, having confidence that we are not unseen by Him. He reminds us to wait upon Him in faithfulness and trust that He fulfils His will.
Today, ponder this: Are you being made to wait patiently for an answer from Jesus? Is there a ‘miracle’ that you’re hoping for from Jesus, but He perhaps wants you to put your trust in Him and patiently wait for His will?
