Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year OneНамуна

Now godliness with contentment is great gain (1 Timothy 6:6).
Are you content to be godly?
Godliness is a pursuit, and being content can be learned. Paul directs Timothy, "But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness" (1 Timothy 6:11). The twin commands in 1 Timothy 6:11 are in the present tense. Timothy is to continually run away from harmful lusts and track down godliness. Observe also how the Lord teaches Paul to be content. While under house arrest in Rome, he writes, "Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content" (Philippians 4:11). He continues, "I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound" (Philippians 4:12). Where did he learn these things? "I can do all things through Christ," writes Paul, "who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). He learned to trust the Unchanging One (Hebrews 13:8).
Employment Point: Pursue godliness and develop contentment from Jesus.
