The Shepherd (S1-E9)Намуна

Hearing & Doing
In this special episode of The Chosen, a limping shepherd, rejected because the lamb he offers isn’t perfect, does something unexpected. Though looked down on and abandoned by his peers, he stops to help. When he meets Joseph and Mary, he gives his own water to the thirsty Mary.
It’s a small act of compassion, but one that mirrors the very heart of God.
The story echoes Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10. The story begins with the question: Who is my neighbor?
The Samaritan crossed boundaries of race, religion, and reputation to show mercy. The story reminds us that love isn’t proven in theory but in practice. As James 1:22 says, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
The shepherds in Luke 2 also heard and responded. When the angel announced the good news of great joy, they didn’t debate it or delay. They went immediately to find Jesus. Their hearing turned into movement, and their movement turned into worship.
What words has God already spoken to you, words you’ve heard but haven’t yet acted on? Hearing is the first step, but obedience is what translates faith into life.
Christmas often inspires generosity and kindness, but the call of Jesus extends far beyond a season. To “love your neighbor” isn’t a holiday slogan; it’s a lifestyle that reflects the heart of the one who came near to us when we were far away.
Reflection Questions
- What is God asking you to do, not just hear?
- Who around you needs compassion or practical help today?
Prayer
Lord, teach me to listen to Your Word and to act on it. Give me courage to step toward others with love, even when it costs me something. Make me a true neighbor who reflects Your compassion. Amen.
