Dear Lord, in this story the father demonstrated how much he truly loved his son by having compassion on him and welcoming him with open arms. God, help me to show compassion like that to those around me: compassion that is filled with love and forgiveness and that holds no grudges. I pray that you give me an opportunity to show that compassion today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Over the next forty-six days, you will embark on a journey through seven ancient spiritual disciplines. Each week, you will be introduced to a new discipline that you can add to the previous weeks. Every longer devotional will be followed by daily Scripture readings and prayers to help you go deeper.
