RELIGIOUS ARROGANCE

MAIN IDEAS

• Jesus tells all those who follow Him that they must free themselves by obeying His teachings.

• Religious arrogance causes those listening to Him to be offended by His exhortation since they consider themselves to be the biological descendants of Abraham – God’s people.

• Abraham’s descendants must have a connection through faith and through their relationship with God – not a biological connection. That they were not really the descendants of Abraham is proved through their desire to kill Jesus, as He did not show support for their faith.

• Jesus does not hesitate to tell them that, judging by their deeds, they rather seem to be the devil’s children, which is why they couldn’t believe the Truth and kept taking the path of religious wandering.

In His address to those who follow Him, JESUS tells them that they must receive the Truth of His teachings in order to be freed from the chains of sin. They take this as a great offense, especially because of their religious arrogance; they think of themselves as authentic descendants of Abraham – God’s people – and beneficiaries of the COVENANT and its promises.

From a biological point of view, this was true, but as the father of all those who believe, Abraham has a trace of faith in the relationship with GOD. To this day, religious arrogance continues to be an obstacle to receiving the KINGDOM OF GOD. This arrogance makes people unaware of the sin they are living in, which leads to them not having a relationship with God.

Religious pride also leads to religious-based hate and to rejecting those who see things differently. There are still many who believe that religion will save them from Hell, which is totally false. In order to be saved from Hell and to enter into the KINGDOM OF GOD, we must be saved from our sin through our faith in JESUS, we must experience being born again, and we must live in a relationship with our Lord JESUS CHRIST, as well as with other saved people.

As JESUS very bravely said that their religion is false, we must also affirm the Truth, no matter the price we must pay for this. Too many compromises are made today in the name of love and the very popular quote: “There are more things that unite us than divide us.” Any “unity” that does not come from the Truth of the Holy Trinity is unacceptable, no matter how interesting it might seem.
