Finishing Well

DAY 2 OF 3

# Finishing Well: Part II Author, Bob Shank, shared his thoughts on succession planning with a group of Kansas City leaders recently. Bob stated that our choices include lingering , committing larceny, or leaving a legacy . Today let’s discuss larceny . One of the FBI definitions for larceny is, “the stealing of any property or article that is not taken by force and violence or by fraud.” Bob Shank’s point about larceny was that some leaders continue in their leadership positions beyond lingering years after their usefulness. They waste company resources, often due to their need for money or control. Romans 2:21 says, “ You, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?” Larceny is a form of stealing. When you keep accepting a paycheck and benefits, but you no longer are adding adequate value to the organization, then you eventually cross over into committing larceny. Using an organization’s resources without adding value is larceny and not pleasing to God. ## Questions for Reflection * What have you done recently to improve your company? What is the difference between adding value to yourself while at work and adding to your company itself? * Is your ongoing presence at work hindering the organization’s progress? * How do you feel about your level of fruitfulness at work compared to years past? * How could you be useful outside of work? Have you made any plans for your next steps after the conclusion of your career?

About this Plan

Finishing Well

God has an ideal time for when our season should end or when He has a new role for us. We need to trust God for what is next and wrap up when God makes it clear it is time, rather than linger beyond our usefulness.
