Worship at the Well

DAY 21 OF 50

Just because you "go off the setlist" doesn't necessarily mean it’s prophetic worship. Just because the drummer starts playing on the toms, doesn't exactly make it prophetic worship. Simply put, prophetic worship is the right thing at the right time. It is the declaration of our love for who Jesus is, what He has done, what He is doing, and what He will do through song, melody, art, dance, lyric, or skillful playing. If Jesus is saying "joy" then joyful worship would be prophetic at that moment. If He is saying "rest" then peaceful worship would be prophetic at that moment. Mainstream worship songs AND spontaneous singing or playing can both be used in this context, as long as they aid in expressing what the Lord is wanting to do or say. Sometimes, Jesus is laboring in intercession in the garden. Sometimes, He is making whips and overturning tables. Other times, He is laughing and eating lunch on the beach with His friends. Prophetic worship is less about trying to be prophetic and more about cultivating such intimacy with Jesus that you can rightfully discern what He is doing at that moment and then use your gifts and skills to express and declare His heart.
