Difference can bring disagreement Too many disputes are the result of thinking differently; therefore, it is best to agree to disagree. When we allow others to disagree with what we say, we are giving them freedom and we are granting ourselves peace. We can strongly disagree with someone else’s opinion, but we must try not to impose our opinions; otherwise, we will end up in heated disputes. In Luke 24:15, we find two disciples engaged in a dispute as they headed to Emmaus. The resurrected Lord approached them and asked them what they were discussing and why they were so discouraged. Of course, we know the two disciples hadn’t learned about the resurrection of Jesus. We can infer from the Bible passage that they were discouraged because they thought Jesus was dead and their hope was gone. Isn’t it true that when something is bothering us, it is easy to engage in disputes? Perhaps, if we identify the underlying causes of our discouragement, it will be easier for us to deal with it and to avoid strong disputes. We can identify three causes of discouragement: 1\. Emotional and physical fatigue 2\. Frustration 3\. Failure The people of Israel became discouraged every time they encountered a challenging situation. And, our two disciples were frustrated because they could not understand why their Lord had to die. Most of us do not understand this either. We know the Israelites always wanted to stop and go back to Egypt. Yet, when Moses prayed and asked God for a solution, they always found a way out. So, let us not get discouraged when we face a dead end. Keep walking in your work. Keep walking in your marriage. Keep walking in your studies. Keep your daily Bible-reading plan. Most of all, keep walking with Jesus. Let us seek God in prayer. As we pray, let us cast away all of our anxieties, our worries, and fill our hearts with faith! There is nothing like believing and trusting our Lord to enable us to put off our frustration. Remember, “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17, NKJV). It’s not about having the strength or the resources. “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts” (Zechariah 4:6, NKJV). It’s all about perseverance in walking with Him!
