Esther may be one of the most famous women in the Old Testament. We often look to her as an example of stepping out in faith when circumstances could be scary. She was a queen, but in her time that didn’t mean she was all powerful. In fact, without her husband, King Xerxes (zirk sees) she was powerless. Have you ever been in a situation when your only power was in asking someone to help, but it would be a difficult conversation? That is Esther’s story. Esther’s uncle Mordecai insulted a man named Haman, who was a noble in the king’s court. Because of this, Haman convinced the king to sign an edit declaring that the Jews be “destroyed, killed, annihilated.” Not only was Esther’s uncle a Jew, Esther was, too. She could not stand by and do nothing while her people were threatened, but she also knew that standing up to the king was bold—almost too bold—and could easily get her killed. But she did it anyway. She knew God had called her for this purpose, and although she was afraid, King Xerxes granted her wishes and the Jews were spared. Esther was willing to give up her life to step out in faith for her people and God. Have you ever been so passionate about something God called you to do that you would risk everything for it? What would the world look like if you had bold faith like Esther?
