On Earth as it is in Heaven Yesterday we learned that as businesspeople, we have a first class calling from the Lord. We have the opportunity to display God’s power in unique and powerful ways to a broken world longing for solutions. And this should affect how we pray. We pray the Lord’s prayer. But what does it really mean? And what does it mean for our businesses? It means that if it isn’t in Heaven then it shouldn’t be on Earth either. If it’s not in Heaven, it shouldn’t be in my life or my family or my business. That includes unforgiveness and strife and business failure. It includes bad employees and bad bosses. And it includes shoddy workmanship and poor customer service. None of this is part of God’s plan. So, what does it look like when the Kingdom of Heaven invades the Kingdom of Earth? The will of God is done on Earth as it is in Heaven. The people, the businesses, and the community prosper. Culture is impacted for good. Clients get the goods or services they need, and the business owner and employees prosper. The glory and love and power of Jesus are displayed. Employees work hard and they become better spouses and parents and friends and church members. A patch of this world is moved toward its original design in Eden. When we have this straight, we pray differently. For decades as a business leader, I prayed about evangelism and sickness and church growth. I prayed for family and friends. But I felt sheepish asking God to help me succeed in business. This was part of that false dichotomy I spoke about yesterday. Does your prayer life suffer at the hands of this lie? There was a man who refurbished wooden furniture for a living. He realized the chemicals were harsh and could cause long term health problems, and he planned to quit this business if he couldn’t find a solution. He was tinkering in his shop to try to invent a new wood stripping chemical that was organic and non-toxic. But he had a high standard: it had to work just as well as the chemical brands. He and his wife were asking God for an answer. One day, he came home to bring lunch to his wife. She was pregnant, and as she awoke from a nap, she told him about a dream she had with a strange series of letters. The man realized this was a chemical formula. Going back to his shop, he combined these chemicals together. This blend turned out to be the perfect formula for a non-toxic wooden furniture stripper. And it worked as well as commercial brands. He began to market it around his region. The couple eventually sold this patent to a large corporation. They bought a nice RV and have the means to travel America doing ministry. Do you need wisdom for your business today? Do you see problems in your world that need solutions? I can assure you that God has answers, and He is ready to use you to bring them from Heaven to Earth. It is your job to ask...and expect an answer. "When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” John 16:13
