A tak: Cez jedného človeka vošiel do sveta hriech a cez hriech smrť. Takto prešla smrť na všetkých ľudí, pretože všetci zhrešili. Hriech bol totiž vo svete už aj pred Zákonom, ale ak niet Zákona, hriech sa neráta. Ale smrť vládla od Adama po Mojžiša aj nad tými, ktorí zhrešili iným spôsobom ako Adam. Adam je predobrazom toho, ktorý mal prísť.
