Zobďaleč sa prizerali ženy, medzi nimi Mária Magdaléna, Mária, matka Jakuba mladšieho a Jozesa, ako aj Salomé. Všetky ho sprevádzali a obsluhovali ho, ešte keď bol v Galilei. Boli tam aj mnohé iné, ktoré išli spolu s ním do Jeruzalema. Keď sa zvečerilo, keďže bol prípravný deň pred sobotou, prišiel Jozef z Arimatie, vážený člen veľrady, ktorý tiež očakával Božie kráľovstvo. Odvážne predstúpil pred Piláta a vyžiadal si Ježišovo telo. Pilát sa však zadivil, že Ježiš už zomrel. Predvolal si stotníka a spýtal sa, či už dávno zomrel. Keď mu to stotník potvrdil, daroval Jozefovi mŕtve telo. Jozef kúpil jemné plátno, sňal Ježiša z kríža, zavinul ho do plátna a uložil do hrobu vytesaného v skale. Ku vchodu do hrobu privalil kameň. Mária Magdaléna a Jozesova matka Mária sa dívali, kde ho položili.
