Keď sa zvečerilo, prišiel bohatý človek z Arimatie menom Jozef, ktorý bol tiež Ježišovým učeníkom. Zašiel k Pilátovi a poprosil ho o Ježišovo telo. Vtedy Pilát rozkázal, aby mu ho vydali. Jozef vzal telo, zavinul ho do čistého plátna a uložil vo svojom novom hrobe, ktorý si vytesal v skale. Ku vchodu do hrobu privalil veľký kameň a odišiel.
