V pote tváre budeš jesť chlieb, kým sa nevrátiš do zeme, lebo z nej si bol vzatý, veď prach si a do prachu sa vrátiš.“ Človek dal svojej žene meno Eva, pretože ona bola matkou všetkých živých. Hospodin, Boh, urobil mužovi a jeho žene kožené šaty a zaodel ich. Potom Hospodin, Boh, povedal: „Hľa, človek sa stal ako jeden z nás: Pozná dobro i zlo. Len aby teraz nesiahol rukou na strom života, nejedol z neho a nežil naveky!“ Hospodin, Boh, ho vyhnal zo záhrady Eden, aby obrábal pôdu, z ktorej bol vzatý. Odohnal človeka a na východ od záhrady Eden postavil cherubov a blýskavý plamenný meč, aby strážili cestu k stromu života.
