Hospodin znova, po tretí raz, zavolal na Samuela. Ten vstal, šiel k Elimu a povedal mu: „Tu som, veď si ma volal.“ Vtedy Eli pochopil, že chlapca volal Hospodin. Eli povedal Samuelovi: „Choď si ľahnúť, no ak by ťa zase volal, povedz: ‚Hovor, Hospodin, tvoj služobník počúva.‘“ Samuel nato odišiel a ľahol si na svoje miesto. Hospodin prišiel, zastal si a zvolal ako predtým: „Samuel, Samuel.“ Ten odpovedal: „Hovor, tvoj služobník počúva.“
