Beneath the Starry Night: A 7-Day Advent Journey Through Scriptureනියැදිය

Day 5: A Light Has Dawned
“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.” — (Isaiah 9:2 NIV)
Walking through deep darkness brings fear and uncertainty. For the Israelites, that darkness was both physical and spiritual. Their kingdom was divided, threatened by Assyrian invasion (Isaiah 7:18–25; 9:1). Leaders were corrupt, the poor were oppressed (Isaiah 1:21–23), and worship of idols had spread throughout the land (Isaiah 2:6–8; Isaiah 57:5–8; Isaiah 65:3–4). Many even sought guidance from spirits and mediums instead of the Lord (Isaiah 8:19).
A nation that no longer looks to the Lord is a nation walking in darkness. Yet into that darkness came a promise. The prophecy of Isaiah 9 pointed to a coming child, a light who would break through despair and bring peace (Isaiah 9:6-7). Jesus, the Light of the world, came to establish His Kingdom and overcome the shadow of sin.
Whatever darkness surrounds you—corruption, confusion, or chaos—you can find peace under His leadership and direction through His Spirit. His light still dawns upon those who seek Him.
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”— (1 Peter 2:9 NIV)
You are chosen and set apart to reflect His light. Your purpose now is to carry that light, telling His story of redemption and your own story of rescue. In doing so, you invite others to see that the same God who met you in darkness can meet them too. As the light of Jesus dawns in your heart, let it grow stronger each day, radiating through your words and actions so others see His hope and love through you.
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.”— (Ephesians 5:8 NIV)
— How would you describe the darkness in the world around you?
— How has the light of Jesus changed the way you walk?
— How can His light in you reach those still in darkness?
